Conjuration

Jehovah Father, Deus Adonay Elohe, I cite Thee through Jehovah. Deus Schadday, Eead, I conjure Thee through Adonay.¹

To carry upon the person the First Table of the Spirits of the Air, who are as quick as thought to help, will relieve the wearer from all necessity.²

Specimen B — The Fifth Table of Saturn

Conjuration

I, N.N., order, command and conjure Thee Sazlij, by Agios, Sedul, by Sother, Veduij, by Sabaot, Sove, Amonzion ✳ Adoij, by Helohim, Jaho, by the Veritas Jehovah ✳ Kawa, Alha, natos³ that ye must appear before me in human form, so truly as Daniel overcame and conquered Baal.⁴ Fiat, Fiat, Fiat.⁵

The Spirits of the Fifth Table of Saturn will serve in everything according to wish. Their Table will bring good luck in play (games of chance).⁶

1The naming — how the compulsion is built

Every conjuration in the set runs the same construction: a spirit-name, then by or through a divine name, repeated in pairs. The operator never commands on his own authority. He commands by leverage, and the leverage is the name of God.Method

Note the languages colliding. Jehovah, Adonai, Elohe, Schaddai are Hebrew divine names; Deus is Latin. Nobody worried that this was a mixture — it is the standard ritual name-stock of Latin Christian magic, assembled over centuries and used as raw power rather than as language.Context

2"To carry upon the person"

The operative act is not the speech. It is the object: a seal, drawn or printed, carried on the body. That places these Tables closer to the amulet tradition than to the elaborate ceremonial of the Solomonic grimoires — no circle, no incense, no hours, no sword.Observation

If the seal does the work and the words are optional garnish, why does the book print the words at all?Open Question

3"Kawa, Alha, natos"

A corruption in plain view. Athanatos — Greek for "deathless" — has come apart across a line break and lost its head. The same word appears whole in the Fourth Table as Ahenatos and in the Tenth as Athanatos.Language

Watch for Agios, Otheos, Yschirios and Athanatos scattered through the set. All four come from the Trisagion of the Greek liturgy — Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal — broken into loose beads and restrung as power-words.Source

4"So truly as Daniel overcame Baal"

The historiola — the miniature story. Every table clinches its demand by invoking a moment when God's power was demonstrated: as that happened, so let this happen. It is the oldest engine in Western charm literature.Definition

This one points to Bel and the Dragon, in the Greek additions to Daniel — Daniel exposing the priests of Bel by scattering ashes on the temple floor to catch their footprints. The translation gives "Baal," conflating two different gods.Source

5"Fiat, fiat, fiat"

Latin: let it be done, three times. A liturgical closing borrowed wholesale from Christian prayer. It appears at the end of six of the twelve; the others simply stop, which is one of several signs that this set was assembled from more than one exemplar.Observation

6"N.N." — the blank on the form

Nomen nescio, "name unknown": the standard notarial placeholder where the operator inserts his own name. Its presence tells you what kind of document this is. Not a record of a working, but a template awaiting a user.Definition

◇ The three parts, and which one carries the weight

The conjurationA chain of divine names plus a biblical precedent. Rhetorically the most impressive part, and the most obviously copied. The sealAn engraved table of characters. Physically carried, buried, or laid on another seal. The only part that requires an object. The use-statementOne sentence naming what it delivers. Written in the flat voice of a catalogue.

Strip away the first and you still have a working amulet. Strip away the third and you have no idea what it is for. Which part is the book actually selling?

Threads to follow

Historiola — the "as X, so Y" construction, traceable through medieval charms to the Greek magical papyri. Agla — a notarikon, the initials of the Hebrew phrase Atah gibor le-olam Adonai, "Thou art mighty forever, Lord." It appears in the Second Table and across four centuries of European charm-work. The absent apparatus — no circle, no timing except one eclipse instruction, no purification, no dismissal within these twelve. The dismissals live elsewhere in the volume.
